where did the time go?

last week was righteous mission. we went to pontiac and worked with grace center of hope. we did a ton of different projects including: murals, VBS, and a huge brick pathway. i worked on the brick pathway, it was a lot of work, but i looks really really good! the whole week was really good as usual. we played tons of euchre, went tubing, rollerskating, and worked our butts off.
it's a time when everyone grows closer to God and one another, it is just awesome!

but now i am back in the real world working, and trying to get everything in order before i go to school. i only have a month left of summer! this is insane! where did my summer go??
i want time to just stop and give me another month of summer. but since i know that isn't going to happen i am making a list of everything i want to get done/want to do before summer is over. i just have to be proactive and get it all done!

tonight i am seeing my friends again after two-ish weeks apart, and i am super excited to see them! i missed them tons!

Island Beats

The Island is always noisy. Between the horses, the boats, the tourists, the bikes and the fort... its loud. At the store we are usually listening to 60's on 6 from XM radio, today however we got to listen to Jimmy Buffet and Lady Antebellum. It got me thinking of other songs that I like... here are a few! Enjoy!!

Jake Owen- Barefoot Blue Jean Night

Oh Land- Son of a Gun

Jason Aldean- Dirt Road Anthem

Adele- Rolling in the Deep

Lady Antebellum- Our Kind of Love

Eric Church- Homeboy

Natalie Cole- This will be

How many Michigan State students does it take to change a lightbulb?

Well, we are more than halfway through this Mackinac adventure and I finally got a visit from my parents and grandma! They only spent 24 hours here, but it was great to see them. Sending them off on the boat made me want to go home, but I took a long walk back to the condo (getting a little bit lost in the woods), and I am back to happy, loving the beauty all around me. Also, they brought up a dozen chocolate muffins, so I have some consolation even after they left me.
Work is pretty much all we do here. I think we all like our jobs, and when we get off we come up to the condo and chill. Apparently we are not a very rowdy group of college girls. The biggest event of our night is the sunset, which is gorgeous.
Today on my meandering walk home I got a little lost in the woods and came upon a pile of rusty junk. There was the hood of a car, a large metal Western Union sign, and a bike tire stuck in a tree. How did a car get up here? I took a picture, because the trash was actually really pretty.

Now, I need to start planning dinner for Mexican Monday!

Chaos

Chaos: state of lacking order or predictability

Story of my life!

In the past 2 weeks the condo has seen 2 families of cousins, 1 set of grandparents, 2 extra friends, 2 siblings, 2 parents, 1 visiting Clarkston family, and 1 random family!! plus 3 dogs!! Its been a madhouse!

Meanwhile I have been working like crazy! Either on the boat or dock or in the store, I'm there everyday!

What is really crazy is that the summer is half over! I was so surprised when it was already 4th of July last week and now its practically a week later! I have a limited number of weekends lets and still lots I want to do before school starts. Its hard to believe I'm going to be a senior in college? What makes me so different than the freshmen in college? What have I learned? Am I really ready for the "real world"? I don't think so.

For now, I am in a permanent state of chaos.

"Nobody reads the blog anyway"

It seems like just last week that I was wrapping my head around the thought of living and working on Mackinac Island and now it will be a month tomorrow that we have been working on the island, so I thought I would give this blogging thing a try. Instead of updating with everything that has happened the past month I will just post some funny quotes for now.

Christine to Me: "You're the least funny person that I know"

Emmalilly: " I am really witty"

Christine after making her bed perfectly: "I am really good at making beds, thats why my friends like me."

Customer in store: "Hey you look familiar"
Emmalilly: " I am Emmalilly Hoxsie."

Christine to me: "Morgan we are going to kill you in your sleep and take all of your money!"

Smoothies.

What's the perfect recipe for a smoothie? Is there a perfect ratio of yogurt, fruit, ice, juice, milk? Isnt it the point of smoothie to just throw anything extra in the fridge together and start blending. Today we had strawberries, peaches, frozen blueberries (I think), vanilla yogurt, and milk. When I say peaches, I mean lots of peaches! Anyway, it all blended fabulously!! yummy healthy evening snack:)

Life is like a smoothie. Working with what you have and making it work.

Last week we had lots of visitors to the island! Friends from State and friends from home, everyone had a great time. We got dressed up one night and adventured to the Grand Hotel. As we rode past the bluff we just had to stop and take pictures, the sunset was amazing!

life:a little bit crazy

i guess i will start with my graduation party. i have to say getting everything ready for the party was a little bit insane, but it all turned out fantastic! we had a ton of great food and desserts, the weather was fabulous and TONS of people came. we estimated that about 150 people came, crazy! hanging out with all the family and friends was really fun! i got a vera bradley backpack from the family i babysit and i cannot wait to use it at school next year, it's so cute! i also got a really awesome book full of bible verses from my best friends mom, it is so artsy and perfect for me! i'm so glad i had a party, but i am relieved that it is over. my school friends stayed after the party and we hung out and watched a movie, it was really chill but a good time. sadly though it was my friend Camille's last night in the U.S. and it was very sad to let her go, but i know she will come visit or maybe i will go to france and visit her... that's a long shot but could happen...

on monday we did lots of clean up for the party( not all but most) and me morgan emmalilly joe and kira headed up to the island. it was freezing when we got up to the island and then started to rain, it was awesome...not. we had mexican monday for dinner, it was fabulous.

tuesday was a crazy day full of the usual island adventures: biking, eating, hanging out, swimming and partying at the grand, and sleep

wednesday we tried to get a free meal, but we were unsuccessful so we simply took the next boat home. along the way we hit some insane rain, i almost had to pull over because i couldn't see anything. it was a little bit crazy.

thursday i had orientation for the fall, going into it i was not excited at all for college i was just nervous, that has changed now. i am mostly excited and only a tad bit nervous.

friday i babysat in the morning for hilary then cleaned the house a whole bunch, then matt beat me in scrabble, but i dominated the world at risk so thats all that matters

saturday was one of the best days ever! the family went to a carnival at chrysler which was cool, we saw fun carnival things, lol. then i got a job. it was kira's grad party so i went to that, and then we went to the Taylor Swift concert and it was amazing!!!! we got a free parking spot from a police man and then he gave us a ride to the concert!!!!

sunday was uneventful, lots of cleaning and then dinner with Pastor Rick and Laura

monday and tuesday i went to ARM in downtown pontiac and helped paint murals of bible stories on the wall of a daycare playground, it was really fun, but tiring. but i did get to see Alexa and Paul mon. and the brother matt and i watched despicable me tues. probably one of my top ten favorite movies

now to today, wednesday, i started my job. i am an official McDonald's employee. another girl is training too, so it was nice to not be the only new person. it was just a ton of information thrown at us, i got the hang of the ice cream machine and the cash register kinda, but i have a long way to go. i wish i couldve gone to ARM again to work on the murals but i need a job and i need to make money so i had to choose one or the other.

the past week and a half have been a little bit insane i have just been going and going! im looking forward to a relaxing weekend on the island, i plan on eating sleeping and laying out. it will be great!
this post is now very long, and i am very tired. back to work in the morning. hopefully day two will be a little bit easier.
God Bless.
